Job purpose
The primary responsibility of the Director, Human Resources covers all facets of the management of the human resources of the company. This includes, but is not limited to, hiring and termination of employees, management of benefit and salary plans, oversight of the safety and medical program of the company and all related reporting requirements. The Director, Human Resources is tasked with full responsibility, and the requisite authority, to manage this effort in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures and should be performed in professional and courteous manner in full support of all employees of the company.
The Director, Human Resources directly reports to the Vice President & CFO.
Duties and responsibilities
- Enhances the organization’s human resources by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices.
- Maintains the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions.
- Supports organization staff by establishing a recruiting, testing, and interviewing program; counseling managers on candidate selection; conducting and analyzing exit interviews; and recommending changes.
- Review and manage compensation and wage scales to attract and retain the most qualified work force while maintaining the company’s competitive advantage. Our people are our most valuable resource.
- Medical programs and Worker’s Compensation fall under the responsibilities of the Director, Human Resources. As such, the full responsibility for all actions in this area fall under his or her control.
- Ensures planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by training managers to coach and discipline employees; scheduling management conferences with employees; hearing and resolving employee grievances; and counseling employees and supervisors.
- Oversees employee benefits programs and informs employees of benefits by studying and assessing benefit needs and trends; recommending benefit programs to management; directing the processing of benefit claims; obtaining and evaluating benefit contract bids; awarding benefit contracts; and designing and conducting educational programs on benefit programs.
- Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements, conducting investigations, maintaining records, and representing the organization at hearings.
- Enforces management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures.
- Ensures Organization has training and development programs to allow employees at every level to grow and succeed within the organization.
Qualifications
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret statutory requirements, and legal documents. Must be able to professionally respond to inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies or members of Conrad primary business community. Should have the ability to effectively present human resource information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret most business documents. Possess the ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Effectively demonstrate persuasive arguments on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Must possess the ability to command respect and demonstrate outstanding leadership skills. Clearly a person who takes control of the daily issues arising during the normal operation of the company. Must develop a management plan that leads the human resource area in every aspect. Decision-making should be driven by qualitative, as well as quantitative, analysis and sound business management practices. Must be a team player willing to listen and discuss alternatives and support the principles of Conrad Industries.
Education and/or Experience
Minimum: 7 to 10 years of human resource management experience in the marine industry or equivalent combination of education and experience. BS Degree
HSE Specialist (Night Shift) Bilingual preferred
